"Saṃhitā" is Sanskrit and literally means: joined, connected, union. The ensemble project Samhita explores the boundaries between the Western European musical tradition, classical Indian music and jazz and allows these musical worlds to enter into an exchange. Among other things, Indian rhythms and scales (ragas) meet in dialogue with Western European instruments and a jazz rhythm section. The sitar with its fascinating and overtone-rich sound as well as the microtonal playing in combination with the modern European instruments result in a remarkable and unique mixture.
